LIZ PRATO is the author of three books, Kids in America: A Gen X Reckoning (essays); Volcanoes, Palm Trees, and Privilege: Essays on Hawai‘i (a Top Summer Travel Read by the New York Times, and a Finalist for the Oregon Book Award); and the short story collection, Baby's on Fire. She also edited the fiction anthology, The Night, and the Rain, and the River.

Liz’s stories and essays have appeared in dozens of literary journals and magazines, and have been chosen as Notable Works in Best American Essays 2018 and Best American Sports Writing 2018.

She has been teaching at workshops and literary festivals from coast-to-coast since 2008. Liz is Editor at Large for Forest Avenue Press.

Liz was a Tennessee Williams Scholar at the Sewanee Writers Conference, and attended the Tin House Writers Conference six times. Her stories and essays have appeared in dozens of literary journals and magazines, including Hayden's Ferry Review, McSweeney’s, Carolina Quarterly, Baltimore Review, The Rumpus, Salon, Hunger Mountain, and ZYZZYVA. Liz's essays have been chosen as Notable Works in Best American Essays 2018 and Best American Sports Writing 2018.

In addition to teaching at Portland’s Attic Writers Workshop, Liz has taught at The Muse and the Marketplace in Boston, Lighthouse Writers Workshop in Denver, The South Coast Writers Conference in Oregon, Write on the Sound in Washington, Willamette Writers, Wordstock, and Corporeal Writing in Portland, to name a few.

Liz grew up in Denver, and now lives with her furry feline friends and her best friend/husband, who is a bookseller, musician, and writer in Portland, Oregon. She lives for small presses, indie bookstores, community, and palm trees.
